Bob Shanahan has been named Volunteer Guardianship’s Volunteer of the Year.

“Please join Volunteer Guardianship One on One in honoring Robert J. Shanahan, Jr., Esq., who has been an active volunteer in the Hunterdon County community for the past 24 years.

Bob has helped shape the lives of Hunterdon County youth as a Boy Scout leader, starting as den leader in Cub Scouts, later becoming a scoutmaster, and now Scoutmaster Emeritus for B.S.A. Troop 121 in Clinton. Additionally, Bob is a merit badge counselor for the Washington Crossing Council, BSA, and the Charter Representative for Troop 191, Asbury, NJ.

In addition, for the past eleven years, Bob has helped Hunterdon County’s most vulnerable seniors with his involvement in Volunteer Guardianship. Bob has served as a member of the Board of Trustees, is a Past President, and currently serves as legal counsel to the Board of Trustees.

Bob is a senior partner at Law Offices of Robert J. Shanahan, Jr., LLC. concentrating in Elder Law, Estate Planning and Probate. He is the Past President of the Hunterdon County Bar Association, and is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, (NJ NA ELA, Board of Trustees). He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and its Elder Law & Disability Section Committee.

In his spare time, Bob is an avid gardener and a gentleman farmer. He is passionate about history and the Revolutionary War. Bob is a founding member, and an active re-enactor, with the Captain Outwater’s Company, Bergen County Militia.

Additionally, Bob is a member of the Board of Trustees for Friends of the Word, Inc., a Catholic internet faith based program produced by Rev. Louis Scurti. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Valley View Farm & Preserve, a non-profit farm that raises food for Norwescap, and area food banks.

Bob received his JD from Temple University School of law and a BA from William Paterson University, with honors.

He has been married to his wife, Mary, for 30 years and is the proud father of two sons, Kevin and John. He is an especially proud grandfather.”
