Partner Robert J. Shanahan, Jr.
Bob Shanahan is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and has practical experience in many elder care situations. You can count on Bob to listen to every detail and nuance of your elder care experiences. You can expect calm and considerate consultation at our law office.
As a partner in the firm, Bob concentrates his practice in estate planning (wills, trusts, powers of attorney), probate, and in elder law (guardianships, powers of attorney, living wills, and Medicaid and nursing home issues). As, a former New Jersey state mediator, Bob is also Collaboratively trained to resolve family issues in elder and probate matters.
Since becoming an attorney in 1985, Bob has experienced the area of Elder Law grow from an occasional question about powers of attorney and guardianships, to a full-blown specialized practice area. Bob saw the effects of poor planning when his wife became executor of her uncle’s estate. The estate left a large sum of money to a severely disabled person, who was then in danger of losing all of his benefits – including his apartment in a specialized home.
Bob applies a step-by-step approach to your elder law planning. Experience has shown him that getting to know your history and your family’s history is the most practical first step toward tranquil outcomes. Bob always recommends thinking things over and discussing your decisions with your family members. We have learned from personal and professional experience that it is never too early to plan but that it also is never too late to improve a plan to secure a family’s future.
Lawyers have to spend time finding out, not only about the individual client, but about his or her family, taking a “holistic” approach to the preparation of these documents, and helping with these issues. Bob’s objective is a future of serenity for your entire family. For assistance from an experienced NJ elder law attorney, consult our NJ elder law firm.
